Over the past two years since posting videos on Youtube, I have received the question almost daily of what advice I have on choosing a keyboard. This includes the question of should the keys be weighted or unweighted. If you are unfamiliar with those terms, weighted keys feel very realistic just like a piano. The are a bit heavy and require more force for your fingers to push down. To be fair though, many piano’s also have some variance in how the keys feel to your fingers.
Have you ever turned the volume down on your keyboard and listened to how loud your keys are by themselves? Not listening to the note they play but just hearing them thump when you press them down? Mine are way too loud when I have the keyboard turned off. Read the rest of this entry »
The diagram below shows darker colors for heavier keys and lighter colors for light weight keys. It only shows one octave for demonstration purposes, but the weight does gradually decrease in the piano as you go from left to right.
